Police Blotter: Employee's Wallet Stolen At Work

ALARM

Officers responded to an active alarm at 2:20 a.m. July 14 on the 300 block of Hastings Drive and found a rear door unsecured. Officers checked the interior of the building and found everything in order. An official was contacted to secure the door.

A resident reported that he sold sporting event tickets to an acquaintance who paid with a personal check that was returned for insufficient funds. The acquaintance has made excuses and now does not answer the phone. An officer spoke with the acquaintance, who stated that payment will be made.

A resident reported July 13 that an acquaintance with whom the individual had a falling out has been calling, texting and sending email. All of the communication is unwanted and unkind. An officer spoke with the acquaintance, who stated that she would not contact the resident in the future.

A resident reported July 13 that an individual keeps calling her about breaking a lease with one of the resident’s clients. The subject will not take no for an answer and keeps calling and leaving lengthy, harassing messages. An officer spoke with the subject and she agreed to deal with the issue through an attorney.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A Buffalo Grove Park District employee reported at 9:20 a.m. July 13 that someone spray painted vulgarity on the park sign at Westchester Park.

A police officer noted at 9:40 a.m. July 13 that someone spray painted one of the stop signs at the intersection of Thompson Boulevard and Highland Grove Drive.

A resident of the 500 block of Coventry Lane reported that someone damaged his curbside mailbox by striking it with an unknown object between 5 p.m. July 12 and 2:30 p.m. July 13.

THEFT

An employee on the 1700 block of Leider Lane reported July 12 that someone took her wallet out of her purse, which had been placed under her desk. The employee was advised by her credit provider that someone made a charge of $271 and attempted to make an additional charge for $409.90.

Someone took a boy’s 20-inch BMX Kink Liberty bicycle from a driveway on the 100 block of Glendale Road between 7 p.m. July 12 and 7 a.m. July 13. The bike is valued at $500.

Someone used a resident’s credit card to make an unauthorized $212.02 purchase on June 23.

OTHER INCIDENTS

An employee on the 1200 block of Barclay Boulevard reported that her car was either stolen or repossessed from the company parking lot at 7 a.m. July 13. It was determined that the employee’s boyfriend, who is the co-owner, had taken the car and was involved in a crash in another community. Police said the boyfriend fled the scene of the crash and the employee was attempting to cover for him by reporting the car stolen.

A company official on the 700 block of Dartmouth Lane reported that a male who identified himself as an attorney came into the company at 11 a.m. July 7 and asked questions about items that have not yet been released. The official thought the man might be a corporate spy and might have planted listening devices. The company has hired a security firm to sweep the building.

A resident reported July 13 that she allowed a friend to use her iPod and he will not return it. The resident has contacted the friend several times but he will not return her calls. An officer met with the friend who stated that he did not realize the resident wanted her iPod back. He gave the iPod to the officer, who returned it to the resident.
