Police Blotter: Drunk Patron Gets Locked In

These were among the reports released Nov. 8 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ALCOHOL

Officers responded to an active alarm at 1 a.m. Nov. 5 at Rack 'Em Up, 312 N. McHenry Road. A company official allowed officers entrance into the establishment where they found a patron, who had been locked inside because he had been very intoxicated the evening before. The patron set off the alarm by going to the bathroom.

Jovany Garcia, 22, of the 800 Block of South Fletcher Drive, Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without insurance, driving without lights and illegal transportation of open liquor at 3:10 a.m. Nov. 6 on Lake-Cook Road near Lexington Drive.

An officer was advised by a Lake County Sheriff's Deputy of a hit-and-run accident in Long Grove at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 7. An officer checked the area and located the vehicle at Checker Drive and Arlington Heights Road. The officer determined that the driver had been drinking and had no valid driver's license. The driver and vehicle were turned over to the Lake County Deputy. 

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A maintenance employee reported graffiti and burn marks were left in a hallway near a door between Nov. 4-5 on the 1-100 block of Oak Creek Drive.

THEFT

A complainant reported Nov. 5 that when she tried to cancel her credit card after her wallet was stolen, she learned someone had used the card to obtain cash at a number of area banking locations.

VANDALISM

A resident of the 1-100 block of Timber Hill Road reported Nov. 5 that someone had egged her driveway. The resident saw two female youths running from the area.  The resident knew who the youths were and the officer spoke with them.  After admitting to the vandalism, the youths were taken back to the victim's residence, where they apologized and cleaned the mess with soap and water.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident of the 200 block of Cottonwood Road, whose home backs up to Alcott Park, reported Nov. 6 that she saw a subject wearing light colored shorts and a dark shirt earlier in the day near Alcott Park. Later that evening, she saw the same person with a girl near her backyard, looking at the arson damage. The area was checked with negative results.

FOUND ANIMAL

A resident reported finding a seven-week old kitten. The kitten, which was black and white, did not have a collar or microchip. It was taken to Kings Kennel.

OTHER INCIDENTS

An officer found a young boy running down the street without shoes at 11:05 a.m. Nov. 5 at Buffalo Grove and Church roads. The officer took custody of the child, whose mother arrived and stated that the boy is autistic and was able to get the house unlocked and run out.

A resident reported that she was notified Nov. 3 by her credit provider that someone attempted to use her credit information to make purchases in Georgia.  The account was canceled.

Officers found a damaged vehicle at 6:05 p.m. Nov. 5 on the 2400 block of Palazzo Court following a request from the Wheeling Police Department to check for a vehicle that may have been involved in a crash.

A customer purchased cologne from a resident through a Craig's List ad Nov. 5, and later returned, demanding his money back because he believed the cologne was a fake. The customer was advised that this is a civil matter.

A resident reported Nov. 6 that he received a letter which stating that he won a lotto prize. There was a check included in the letter and instructions to call the claims agent for further information. The resident correctly believed this to be a scam.

A resident of the 1800 block of North Prairie Road reported at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 6 that while workers were attempting to cut down unsafe willow trees, a neighbor was harassing the workers, stating that no branches better fall on his property. The neighbor stated that the resident had been unreasonable with him in the past so he will also be unreasonable.

A resident of the 1800 block of Prairie Road reported that while workers were attempting to trim willow trees near the property line at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 7, the neighbor first stood under the trees to prevent work and then parked a vehicle next to the trees to further prevent work from being completed. The neighbor was told to remove the car.

A resident of the 100 block of Golfview Terrace reported that his neighbor saw a subject on the resident's back porch, looking into the windows at 9:15 p.m. Nov. 6. The neighbor yelled at the subject who then took off toward Mohawk Trail. The subject was described only as wearing a black sweatshirt. The area was checked with negative results.

A resident of the 200 block of Thornapple Court reported that an argument between people in a parking lot was becoming physical at 3 a.m. Nov. 7. An officer located the subjects, who apologized for the disturbance and realized that they chose a poor location to discuss their past relationships.

A resident reported Nov. 7 that he received a call from a subject who spoke broken English. The caller asked the resident if he had the money and said that the caller would be by shortly to pick the money up. An officer ran the caller's phone number and found no information for it, and when the number is called the line goes dead.
