Police Blotter: Drano Bomb, Stolen Shoes

These were among the reports released March 7 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

BURGLARY

A resident reported March 6 that someone broke the rear passenger side window of his vehicle, which was parked on the 1300 block of Witney Lane, and removed a pair of Nike Air Jordan shoes.

FOUND ITEM

A silver steel case was found at the at the intersection of Highland Grove Drive and East Thompson Boulevard at 9:35 a.m. March 6. An officer retrieved the case and found it to be a vehicle emergency roadside care kit. The kit was placed into property.

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported at 9:30 p.m. March 4 that her 17-year-old daughter had not returned home and could not be reached on her cell phone. The girl was entered into the police database.

A resident reported that his 11-year-old daughter left the house without permission on March 6. An officer located the girl walking in the area and returned her home.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 200 block of Osage Terrace reported at 11:20 p.m. March 6 that someone placed a “Drano Bomb” on her front step. The device blew the cap off and sprayed the caustic liquid onto the step and the front of the house.

SCAM

A resident reported that she received a number of emails between Feb. 9 and March 4 from a person she believed to be her friend. The emails stated that the friend had been robbed in London and that she needed money to get home. The resident sent four payments via Western Union in the amount of $4,000 and provided her credit card and business account information. When the resident learned that she had been scammed, an alert was placed with the credit bureaus.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident of the 1300 block of Kent Lane reported that a female entered the home of her neighbor, who was out of town, at 4:50 p.m. March 4. An officer checked the residence and found everything in order. The resident believed that the female was probably the neighbor’s estranged wife.

THEFT

Someone made 11 unauthorized charges to a resident’s checking account between Feb. 18 and March 3. The resident still has his debit card in his possession. The bank will follow up.  

A resident’s credit provider informed her March 4 that someone attempted to use her ID to open a credit account. The resident has placed an alert with the credit bureaus.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported March 4 that he received a statement from a collections agency stating that he owes a cable company $1,139.67. The service is at an address in Chicago. The resident never contracted for the cable service and he has no connection to the address receiving the service.

A Public Works employee reported that a resident had removed the manhole cover to the sanitary sewer and was pumping floodwater into it at 9:30 a.m. March 6 on the 100 block of Mohawk Trail. The resident was advised that was a violation and was told to stop the pumping and replace the cover. It was suggested that the water be pumped into the storm drain.
