Police Blotter: Dog Owner Scolded for Failure to Pick Up — Well, You Know

These were among the reports released April 4 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ALCOHOL

Inga Platukiene, 36, of the 1500 block of Wyndham Circle, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, driving without insurance and improper use of registration at 1:15 a.m. April 2 on westbound Dundee Road at Grove Drive.

Michelle M. Jessen, 31, of the 300 block of North Carter, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 2:35 a.m. April 2 on westbound Lake-Cook Road at Milwaukee Avenue.

Jose R. Romo, 33, of the 4200 block of North Bonhill, Arlington Heights, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence (a felony), driving on a revoked license (a felony), speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, driving without insurance and transportation of open liquor at 4:10 a.m. April 2 on Dundee Road at Carriageway Drive.

Yimer Martinez, 31, of the 1200 block of Winslow Drive, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 4 a.m. April 3 on eastbound Dundee Road at Crofton Lane.

Cynthia A. Philipp, 54, of the 1-100 block of Chestnut Court East, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and disregarding a stop sign at 9 p.m. April 3 at Brandywyn Lane and Thompson Boulevard.

ANIMAL STORIES

A resident reported a subject walking his dog without a leash at 2:15 p.m. April 2 on the 1000 block of Shambliss Lane. The dog then defecated on the resident’s lawn and the subject failed to pick up the droppings. An officer spoke with the subject who stated that he had been talking on his cell phone and “did not see the dog do his thing,” police said. The subject was admonished and told to “pick things up.”

A resident brought a small white and tan male Shih Tzu to the police station. The resident stated that the dog was wandering around Buffalo Grove Road at Deerfield Parkway. There was no tag or chip and the dog was taken to Kings Kennel.

A resident found a black and white male Boston Terrier wandering in the area of the 600 block of LeParc Circle. The dog had no tags or chip and he was taken to Kings Kennel. The owner later claimed the dog.

GAS LEAK

A Nicor employee stated he responded to a report of a gas smell and found a high concentration of gas coming from a residence at 12:45 p.m. April 1 on the 800 block of Saratoga Lane. No one appeared to be at home. A door was forced open and it was determined that the residence had a faulty furnace. The fire department was able to contact the homeowner.

LOST ITEM

A resident reported April 3 that her brown Coach wallet has been missing since March 30. The wallet contained credit cards and her driver’s license. No unauthorized charges were made to her accounts.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported receiving numerous phone calls and text messages from her estranged husband regarding their pending divorce between Nov. 1 and April 1. The resident was referred to the police social worker, and a message was left with the husband to make any future communications through their attorney.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 600 block of Harris Drive reported that someone threw a rock at a side window of her home, breaking the outer pane of a double-paned window between 7:30 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. April 1. No entry was made into the home. The resident stated that she has had an on going dispute with a neighbor. An officer attempted to contact the neighbor without success.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/VEHICLE

A resident of the 100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road reported four subjects were in the parking lot drinking beer and playing loud music at 1:10 p.m. April 3. An officer spoke with the subjects who apologized and went inside.

A resident reported that there was an unknown car in his neighbor’s driveway at 9:55 a.m. April 2. An officer was unable to obtain a phone number for the registered owner. There was no one at home and the house was secure.

THEFT

A candidate running for election reported that three of his campaign signs were removed from three of his neighbors’ front yards between midnight and 10 a.m. April 2.

A resident reported that someone made unauthorized purchases using the resident’s debit account between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. March 26. The bank is aware of the transactions.

Sheldon H. Zivin, 64, of the 1500 block of Rose Boulevard, Buffalo Grove, was charged with theft at 5 p.m. April 2 at Dominick’s, 770 S. Buffalo Grove Road, after an employee reported seeing him place merchandise into his sweatshirt and attempt to leave the store without paying.

VANDALISM

A resident of the 400 block of Diane Drive reported that her son’s car was egged after 10 p.m. April 2. It was noted that some kids that her son used to associate with had been driving up and down the street.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A resident reported March 31 stated that her ex-boyfriend sent her a message stating he was overdosing on drugs and that he placed a goodbye message on Facebook. Officers contacted the ex who stated that he sent no such message and did not intend to harm himself. The resident was advised.
