Police Blotter: Dog Accepts Ride with Stranger

ALCOHOL

Sridhar Balasubramanian, 27, of the 2300 block of South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 12:15 a.m. May 19 on westbound Dundee Road at Old Arlington Heights Road.

Francisco Serrano, 25, of Minneapolis, Minn., was charged with driving under the influence, illegal lane use and driving without a valid license at 4:55 a.m. May 20 on westbound Lake-Cook Road east of McHenry Road

ANIMALS

A person reporting holding a dog that was wandering around the 1200 block of West Dundee Road at 6 p.m. May 19. An officer determined the owner, who stated that she was at work, and it would be OK for the officer to leave the dog with a neighbor.

A reported a small white poodle was running loose at 1 p.m. May 20 on the 1100 block of Courtland Drive. When the person opened his car door, the dog jumped in. The dog had a collar and tags and was reunited with its owner.

BATTERY

Julius B. Tabang, 42, of the 400 block of Trinity Court, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 1:30 p.m. May 19 on the 400 block of Trinity Court.

A woman who works in Buffalo Grove reported May 18 that she has an order of protection against her ex-boyfriend, and he sent an instant message professing his love for her. Now the employee is receiving sexually explicit websites on her work computer, and she believes the ex is sending them. An officer found nothing specifically that indicates the ex is sending the emails.

A resident of the 2800 block of Dunstan reported that a contractor was doing some work for a cable provider on May 18, and the contractor parked his large truck in the resident’s driveway, causing the concrete to crack in two places. The easement grass also had been gouged. The resident was advised to contact the contractor’s company or the cable provider for redress.

A resident of the 100 block of Fabish Drive reported May 18 that her neighbor constantly yells at her son not to play outside. When the resident spoke with the neighbor, he yelled and she felt threatened. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who stated that the boy and other children make too much noise. The officer advised the neighbor not to confront the children and take the matter up with the homeowners association.

A cab driver reported at 5:15 a.m. May 19 that his passenger, who was driven from Chicago to Buffalo Grove, did not have the money to pay the fare. The passenger contacted a family member who then made payment.

FOUND ITEM

An officer found a bicycle lying on the sidewalk at 4:30 p.m. May 19 on the west side of Buffalo Grove Road at Common Way Drive. The officer retrieved the bike when he found no one in the area and placed it into property at the station. The bike is a green Schwinn High Plains mountain bike.

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported at 7:30 a.m. May 18 that her 15-year-old daughter did not come home the previous night. The girl was entered into police state database. A friend called the resident later in the day and said that the daughter had sent a text message with an address in Chicago and said she needed to be picked up. Chicago police were notified. The girl returned home later in the day and appeared fine.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident of Oak Creek Drive reported May 19 that her ex-boyfriend sends email, text messages and makes phone calls because he does not want their relationship to be over. An officer spoke with the ex, who promised to cease his communications.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 1000 block of Greenridge Road reported that someone unknown scratched his vehicle between 9 p.m. May 17 and 7 a.m. May 18. The long scratch appeared to be made by a key or other metal object.

A resident reported that someone damaged the lower panel of her garage door between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. May 18 on the 1100 block of Courtland Drive. The door will be repaired by the homeowners’ association.

A resident of the 900 block of Twisted Oak Lane reported the rear window of his car was shattered while it was parked in the driveway between 7 a.m. and 6:35 p.m. May 18. There was nothing to indicate what caused the damage. The vehicle was not entered and nothing was missing.

A complainant reported that a youth opened the door to the vehicle parked next to the complainant’s and struck the complainant’s car at 5:30 p.m. May 20 on the 700 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. The complainant attempted to stop the vehicle without success. An officer made contact with the registered owner who said his daughter was driving the car. The father called the girl, who stated that she was unaware of any damage. The father was given the complainant’s information and requested to contact her.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/VEHICLE

A resident of the 900 block of Old Arlington Court reported that two men were standing on the front stoop of the house and two more were standing in the driveway at 7:55 p.m. May 18. The resident said when he did not answer the door, the four got into a dark vehicle and left. Officers checked the area with negative results.

A baby sitter on the 400 block of Highland Grove Drive reported that two vehicles drove past the house several times between noon and 8:50 p.m. May 18. One vehicle was described as a dark, two-door sedan with chrome lining around the windows, and the other as an older-style silver minivan. Officers checked the area with negative results.

A resident of Poplar Court reported a male subject came to her door at 6 p.m. May 19 and asked for an address. The resident told him it was the wrong street. The subject, who was holding papers and had a badge around his neck, left in a white sedan. The address the subject was looking for is not a valid address in Buffalo Grove.

WELL-BEING CHECK

An officer responded to a report of a small child running in the street at 8:10 p.m. May 19. The officer spoke with a resident, who stated that when she went to the bathroom, her son ran out of the house. When she realized he was not there, she went after him and brought him home. The officer spoke with the boy about the dangers of running outside without supervision.
