Police Blotter: Deceptive Checks; Missing Mom Found

The following information was supplied by the Buffalo Grove Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

DECEPTION
The store owner at Best Salon & Spa, 139 McHenry Rd., reported that a customer paid for services and merchandise by check on three occasions between May 21 and June 13.  All three checks were returned as account closed.  The total of the three checks is $289.89.

MOM COMPLAINS OF SLANDER
A Buffalo Grove resident reported that her daughter had a falling out with a friend.  After attempting to resolve their differences, the mother of the friend posted a demeaning message on Facebook on June 13.  The resident felt the message was slander and she was referred to her attorney.

FAKE PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE CALL
A resident of the 400 block of Regent Drive received a phone call on June 13 from a male subject stating that he is from Publisher’s Clearing House and that the resident just won $3.5 million.  The subject then instructed the resident to meet a woman named Cathy and pay her the excise tax.  The resident stated that she would go after she speaks with the police.  The caller stated an expletive and hung up.

PALATINE ASSIST
Palatine Police requested that officers take a resident into custody for a violation of an order of protection on June 13 at the 1200 block of East Deerfield Parkway.  Officers made a number of attempts but were unable to contact the resident.

MISSING MOM FOUND
A resident of the 1100 block of Johnson Drive reported that his 64-year-old mother went for a walk at noon on June 13 and had not returned by 3:25 p.m.  The mother is visiting and does not know the area.  Following a broadcast of the woman’s description, a public works employee saw the woman and she was picked up and returned to her family.

OFFENSIVE SIGN
At 4:35 p.m., June 13, a complex official at 1100 block of Johnson Drive stated that someone placed a sign on the windshield of a car and that some language on the sign could be offensive to some kids in the area.  The officer located the car and sign which stated “to the idiot ------- who stole my nav get a ------- job loser.” The officer was unable to make contact with the registered owner so he removed the sign.

IMPROPER SECURITY
Officers responded to an active alarm at Exodus Church, 385 S. Buffalo Grove Rd., at 5:20 p.m., June 13, and found doors that were unlocked.  The premises were checked and found to be in order.  A church official responded to secure the doors.

SOLICITOR COMPLAINT
A resident reported a solicitor on the 3000 block of Roslyn Lane, at 6:55 p.m., June 13.  An officer located the subject who was soliciting magazine subscriptions for All 4 One Inc.  The subject had no permit and was requested to stop.
