Police Blotter: Dad Strikes Daughter's Ex-Boyfriend

BURGLARY

A representative of a company on the 900 block of West Dundee Road reported that someone removed the temporary cover to a broken window between 4 p.m. April 13 and 3:40 p.m. April 16 and there were indications that someone was inside the building. It was not known immediately whether any inventory was missing.

DISPUTE

A resident reported April 16 that a painting contractor came to her home demanding payment for work that had been done three years ago. The resident said that the work that had been done had been disputed. An officer spoke with the contractor by phone and he stated that he would place a lien on the residence. The contractor also agreed not to return.

A resident of Thompson Court reported an open garage door at a neighbor’s house at 1 p.m. April 16. Officers found the garage door open and found the service door secured. The garage door was closed. The officer checked the front door and found that unlocked. An officer spoke by phone with the resident, who stated that he forgot to lock the front door and asked that the officer secure it.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A complainant reported that a car door blew open due to high winds and damaged his Dodge Caravan at 9:35 a.m. April 16 in the parking lot. The complainant and the other car owner exchanged information.

SUSPICIOUS/UNWELCOME PERSON

A resident of the 500 block of Bernard Drive reported that his neighbor told him someone was yelling obscenities outside of the home at 5 a.m. April 16. The resident did not hear any yelling. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who stated that he heard obscenities yelled, and when he looked, he saw a boy, about 15 years old, riding a bicycle away from the address heading eastbound. The resident and neighbor were advised to call 911 immediately if this recurs.

A resident of the 200 block of Selwyn Lane reported that the doorbell rang at 3:15 a.m. April 17 and when he checked, he saw his daughter’s ex-boyfriend standing by his vehicle. Words were exchanged and the resident struck the ex-boyfriend until he left the area. An officer spoke to the ex-boyfriend via phone and he did not wish to sign complaints. The ex-boyfriend was advised to stay away.

THEFT

A resident of the 1100 block of Windbrooke Drive reported that someone cut the locking cable to her black Trek 4300 mountain bike and removed it from the first-floor rear patio between 11 p.m. April 15 and 7 a.m. April 16. The bike is valued at $700.

A loss-prevention official at noted that the racks containing DVDs were empty at 8:35 p.m. April 15. When he checked, he found that none had been sold. The official then reviewed tape from the video camera that records the display and he observed a known person taking seven DVDs, placing them in her coat and leaving the store without paying. An investigator will follow up.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A police officer from Chrisman, Ill. reported that a credit card belonging to one of their residents was used three times to make unauthorized purchases April 5 at . The Walgreens manager located the transaction receipts and video surveillance of the transactions. An investigator will follow up.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported April 16 that her former friend used airline tickets that were not used to purchase other tickets. Since the resident had a falling out with the friend, she canceled her ticket but allowed the former friend’s ticket to stand since she paid half of the original tickets. The resident wanted this documented in case other issues arise. No contact with the former friend was requested.
