Police Blotter: ComEd Trucks Prompt Call to Police

ALCOHOL

Gregory J. Hays, 64, of the 2600 block of College Hill Circle, Schaumburg, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal lane usage and driving without insurance at 12:12 a.m. Jan. 13 near Dundee and Weidner roads.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 100 block of Mary Lu Lane reported that someone stole a watch and medication from an unlocked vehicle in her driveway between 2-6:30 a.m. Jan. 12.

COMPLAINT

A resident of the 100 block of Greenwood Court South reported at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 that two suspicious people came to his door and asked to provide an estimate for replacing his windows for his house. The call to police was placed a few hours after the incident. Officers checked the area and did not find anyone. The resident was asked to contact the police at the time of occurrence.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A complainant reported a male patron inside a business on the 100 block of McHenry Road was causing a disturbance at 9 p.m. Jan. 12. The patron left before police arrived.

DISPUTE

A cab driver reported that the passengers he dropped off at 1:05 a.m. Jan. 13 on the 600 block of Vernon Lane still owed $6.10 in fare. Officers arrived and full payment was made.  

IMPROPER SECURITY

Officers located an open door to a business at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 13 on the 300 block of West Half Day Road. They checked the interior and found no signs of forced entry or damage.

While conducting a vacation watch check, an officer found an open door at 9:19 a.m. Jan. 13 on the 700 block of Boxwood. The interior was checked and appeared to be in order. The officer secured the door.

FOUND PROPERTY

Officers found a backpack and jacket at 8:55 a.m. Jan. 12 near Longfellow School. After some research, the owner was located and reunited with his belongings. 

HARASSING PHONE CALLS

A resident reported receiving several text messages that were harassing and insulting in nature from an ex-boyfriend between 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11 and 4:30 a.m. Jan. 12. Police left a voicemail for the suspect advising him that he needed to stop. 

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Officers located graffiti on a wall behind a business at 8:53 a.m. Jan. 12 on the 0-100 block of West Dundee Road. The graffiti was not gang-related. The property manager was advised.

Officers located graffiti on a rear business wall at 9:50 a.m. Jan. 12 on the 700 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. The graffiti was not gang-related. The property manager was advised.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/VEHICLE

A resident of the 900 block of West Thompson Boulevard reported two men came to his home to fix his window at 5:50 p.m. Jan. 11. The resident stated his windows were not broken or in need of repair. The men became angry and pounded on his front door before walking away. The men were described as about 20 years old, one thin and tall, the other short and stocky. Police check the area but did not locate the men.

A complainant reported seeing yellow trucks with flashing yellow lights on top at 3:54 a.m. Jan. 12 on the 1900 block of Beverly Lane. Officers arrived and checked the area and advised the resident that there was a power outage in the area and the trucks belonged to ComEd.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A complainant reported Jan. 11 that he has not heard from his parents for the last few days and they haven't answered their phone. Officers drove to the address and made contact with the parents who stated their phone was not working. The complainant will repair the phone.
