Police Blotter: Co-Worker Charged with Battery

 ABANDONED VEHICLE 

A complainant reported Oct. 7 that a red 1986 Chevrolet truck had been parked in a lot on the 900 block of West Lake-Cook Road for about a month. The vehicle registered out of Wisconsin and the phone number for the registered owner was disconnected. An officer advised the complainant that since the vehicle is on private property, it could be towed.

Tammy L. McCarrick, 41, of the 2600 block of Walters Avenue, Northbrook, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 2:05 a.m. Oct. 8 on Dundee Road near Vernon Lane.

Martin J. Alvarez, 45, of the 900 block of Monroe Avenue, Renton, Wash., was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license and illegal lane use at 1 a.m. Oct. 10 on Buffalo Grove Road at Town Place.

ANIMALS

A resident turned over two stray dogs that she found wandering on the 1300 block of Madison Drive. One dog is described as a small black male Chihuahua/shepherd mix and the other a medium-sized black German shepherd mix. Both dogs had a collar but no tags and no chip. The dogs initially were taken to Kings Kennel and then to Lake County Animal Control for observation.

A resident turned over a white-and-black male cat with a blue collar that was found on the 200 block of Cherrywood. The cat had no tags or chip and was transported to Kings Kennel.
 
A resident reported that a neighbor’s dog was outside, barking, between 3 and 4 a.m. An officer spoke with the neighbor who said she would refrain from putting the dog out so early.

BATTERY

Benito Gonzalez-Lopez, 34, of the 1900 block of Green Lane, Palatine, was charged with battery at 11:50 p.m. Oct. 9 at a business on the 700 block of Corporate Grove Drive after a female reported that a co-worker grabbed her by the waist and told her that he wanted a date with her. The complainant requested that he leave her alone and said he returned an hour later and grabbed her by the waist again. She reported the man a returned a third time and attempted to place his hand under her shirt.

BUILDING CHECK

A complainant requested Oct. 8 that officers check on a home on the 200 block of Forest Place where the garbage cans had not been moved from the driveway and the lights are on all the time. An officer found an unlocked door and found the house to be abandoned. The officer secured the door and notified the .

COMPLAINTS

An officer responded to a report of a solicitor at 6:25 p.m. Oct. 7 on Apple Hill Lane and West Route 22 and located the seller, who stated that he was selling candy for a Teen Challenge. The solicitor did not have an appropriate permit and was requested to stop soliciting.

A complainant stated that she was visiting her friend at work at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7 on the 500 block of West Dundee Road when her friend and a co-worker got into an argument. When the complainant intervened, the co-worker slapped the complainant on the cheek. The report was delayed and no complaints were signed.

A resident reported that someone rang his doorbell at 1 p.m. Oct. 8 and when he answered he found a note with a derogatory statement.

A resident reported a 2004 green Honda Pilot EXL that was speeding through the Amherst Court/Aspen Drive neighborhood without lights on at 7:25 p.m. Oct. 9. The vehicle would stop at houses with Halloween decorations the youths would jump out of the car and mess them up. An officer spoke with the car’s registered owner, who stated that his son was out with his friends. The owner called his son to come home. The son and his three friends admitted to rearranging decorations but stated that they did not steal anything. All parents were notified of the happenings. The driver received a citation for having too many passengers in his car.

A complainant believes that a resident of Villa Verde Drive is selling drugs out of his apartment since there are many and frequent visitors. Officers will monitor the area.

DUMPING

A resident of the 300 block of Hiawatha Drive reported Oct. 7 that a neighbor moved out and left a large quantity of garbage at the curb. An officer found a sticker on the garbage indicating that no pickup was made due to nonpayment of fees. The officer contacted the Building and Zoning Department, which indicated that it would have the garbage removed.

FOUND ITEM

A boy’s blue BMX Mongoose bicycle was found at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 9 on the side of the bike path south of the parking lot of . The bike was placed into property at the police station.

IMPROPER SECURITY

Officers responded to an active alarm at 12:35 p.m. Oct. 7 and found the front door unlocked. Officers checked the home and found everything in order. The homeowner was contacted and advised. The door was secured.

INVESTIGATION

A resident of the 1100 block of Auburn Lane reported the odor of burnt cannabis in the foyer and the garage hallway at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 7. A K9 indicated on an apartment. An officer spoke with the resident, who gave consent to search, stating that she had just moved into to the apartment. Nothing was located.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A business official on the 1700 block of Weiland Road reported that an upset customer flipped over a glass table, breaking it at 1:55 p.m. Oct. 7. An officer attempted to make contact with the customer without success. A complaint will be signed and the officer will follow up.

Someone shattered a main entrance glass door with a ball bearing between 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7 and 6:45 p.m. Oct. 8 on the 600 block of Lake-Cook Road.

A resident of the 100 block of Buffalo Grove Road reported seeing four or five juveniles shooting a BB rifle at his garage at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 8. An officer noted at least 36 holes in the siding at the rear of the garage. The officer contacted the resident of the home where the kids were seen and he stated that he does have a BB rifle but was unaware that anyone had used it. The owner will speak with the victim regarding the damage.

THEFT

A resident reported that someone used her credit account to make an unauthorized $48 charge on Sept. 26 in Indiana. The bank was notified.

A complainant reported Oct. 7 that his friend left a store with a toy gun that he did not pay for. An officer spoke with the parents of the friend, who stated that they would take their son to the store, have him apologize and pay for the item.

A customer stated that she loaded her groceries into the trunk of her car and forgot to take a 12-pack of beer from the lower rack of the cart at 5:35 p.m. Oct. 8 in the parking lot. When the customer returned to the cart, the beer was gone. Security camera footage showed a person finding and taking the beer, but the image was not clear enough to identify.

VANDALISM

A employee reported that someone tagged some of the ramps at the between 10 p.m. Oct. 7 and 9:10 a.m. Oct. 8.

Someone used chalk to draw offensive pictures on a driveway between 4:30 and 9:10 p.m. Oct. 9 on the 300 block of Armstrong Drive.
