Police Blotter: Christmas Lights Cut, Kids Hit Car with Stone

DRUGS/ALCOHOL

Helen H. Markey, 47, of the 700 block of Pacific Avenue, Waukegan, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and with speeding at 12:40 a.m. Dec. 2 on eastbound Dundee Road at Weidner Road.

A resident of the 1100 block of Belmar Lane reported at 6:15 p.m. Nov. 30 that a vacant house is used on a regular basis by youths. An officer checked and found one overhead door unsecured. The house was in order as was the garage. The door was secured and the real estate agent was notified. 

LOST/FOUND PROPERTY

A resident reported finding a gray purse in the parking lot outside of Buffalo Grove Theater at 8 p.m. Dec. 1. The purse contained a black wallet with an Illinois ID, cash and miscellaneous paperwork. The owner picked up the purse at police headquarters. 

A resident reported De. 2 that his black wallet fell out of his shopping bag in the parking lot of Aldi on Nov. 27. He has not been able to find the wallet, which contained his Social Security card, debit card and an Illinois State ID. The debit card was canceled. 

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A driver reported that when going through the intersection of Raupp Boulevard and Glendale Road at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 1 she heard an object strike her car, and then saw two youths running into a house. The car sustained a dent and scratch. The two youths admitted to skipping stones across the street but each blamed the other for throwing the one that struck the car. The parents of both were notified and they agreed to pay for the damage. 

A resident of the 1300 block of Rose Court West reported that someone cut the Christmas lights in her yard between 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and 9 a.m. Dec. 2.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

A resident reported a car was parked on Bernard Drive near Windsor Drive between 5 a.m. Dec. 1 and 8:45 a.m. Dec. 2. The car was registered to a Chicago resident. An officer was unable to locate a phone number for the registered owner. The midnight shift was notified to ticket the vehicle if it was not moved. 

THEFT

A Cooper Middle School official stated that during a school concert, she left her cell phone in the cafeteria at 7:25 p.m. Nov. 29. When she returned to retrieve her phone, it was gone. The cell provider was contacted and the service was canceled. 

Patrick L. Berman, 20, of the 100 block of Glendale Road, Buffalo Grove, was charged with theft at 1:45 p.m. Dec. 2 at Dominick’s after a loss prevention official reported that a customer purchased some items and then remained in the store. The official then observed the customer place additional items into the bag and leave the store without paying.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Dec. 2 that her adult son, who has lived with her for two years, has been allowed to periodically use her car. The resident stated that her son dropped her off at work on Nov. 18 and did not pick her up. He has yet to return with the car. Police learned that the car had not been impounded and the son had not been arrested.
