Police Blotter: Cars Damaged, Burglarized

ATTEMPTED SCAM

A resident reported that he listed a timeshare property on craigslist Oct. 24. A person responded and sent a check via FedEx for three times the amount required. The person then called the resident and told him to send the difference to an address in New York. The resident took no action, knowing this to be a scam.

BURGLARY

Someone smashed a car window and took a purse from the front passenger seat between 4:30 and 6 p.m. Oct. 31 in the parking lot of the . The black leather purse contained a wallet with various bank and department store cards, $40 in cash and a driver’s license. The purse also contained a makeup bag with makeup valued at $500.

A resident of the 1100 block of Russellwood Court reported someone slashed two tires on her vehicle between Oct. 16 and Oct. 17.

THEFT

A complainant reported Oct. 31 that he bought a vehicle June 28 from a dealership on the 1-100 block of East Dundee Road, and that the temporary license plates have expired and he has not received a title for the car. The car he left with the dealer to sell on consignment is gone and the complainant has not received payment. The temporary license plates did not register to the complainant or the car he purchased. The Illinois Secretary of State police have been notified.

OTHER INCIDENTS 

A resident reported Oct. 31 that his estranged wife hacked into his personal computer, installed an external hard drive and then copied the computer’s hard drive. The resident found the external hard drive by chance and is keeping possession of it.
