Police Blotter: Burglary from Car, Phone Call Complaints

These were among the reports released May 13 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

BURGLARY

Someone entered a vehicle on the 100 block of Weiland Road between 6-7 p.m. May 11 and removed $40 in cash. A security recording showed an employee run out of the building, get into the complainant’s vehicle, get out and run back into the building. The complainant has been reimbursed and the employee will be terminated. No complaints were signed.

DISPUTE

A business owner on the 700 block of South Buffalo Grove Road requested assistance with the removal of the manager on May 12. It was determined that the owner is a 50 percent shareholder and that her daughter, who owns the other half, did not want the manager removed. An officer advised that he would not force the manager to leave.

MISSING CHILD

A resident reported that his 10-year-old son left the house after being scolded for riding his bike in the middle of the street at 9 p.m. May 12. Officers, with the assistance of police from Wheeling and Arlington Heights, along with the , searched for the boy who was located in Wheeling an hour and a half later.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A complainant reported May 12 that she has been doing some mortgage work for a couple for the past two years. The business relationship ended in 2009.  The couple continued to call at all hours of the day even though they have been told to stop. On advice of an attorney, the complainant sent a certified letter to the couple telling them not to call anymore.

A resident reported May 12 that she has been receiving text messages calling her names and referring to her breakup with her boyfriend. The number is registered to an acquaintance, who denied sending the text messages. The acquaintance stated that someone else used her phone for a period of time.

PROPERTY DAMAGED

Someone entered a business on the 800 block of South Buffalo Grove Road and damaged the women’s bathroom door by kicking it in between 10 p.m. May 11 and 7 a.m. May 12. The complainant stated that youths have been hanging around the property.

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALL

An 81-year-old resident received a phone call May 12 from someone who asked, “Do you know who this is?” The resident thought the caller sounded like a relative named David. The caller said he was David, that he had been arrested in Cancun and needed bail money. The resident confirmed that her relative named David was not in Mexico and did not send any money.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

A resident of the 300 block of Foxford Drive reported at 3:40 p.m. May 12 that an unfamiliar vehicle had been parked on the street for the past hour. An officer located the unoccupied vehicle, which was parked legally with no posted parking restrictions. A check of the registration showed the vehicle to be owned by a resident of the area.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident of the 1000 block of Crofton Lane reported that someone knocked over his air conditioning unit, causing his Internet cable to become disconnected between 9 p.m. May 11 and 6:30 p.m. May 12. The resident believes that his landscaping company is responsible. The resident put in a call to the landscaping company but it has not called back.

A resident reported May 12 that his estranged wife used his medical insurance information for treatment. The estranged wife is not on the policy.  When the husband contacted the medical treatment facility, he was advised that he is responsible for the bill.  The resident is in contact with his attorney.

A resident went who was searching online for jobs found an ad for a company and was directed to a secondary site. The secondary site asked for all of her personal information, including her Social Security number. The following day the resident contacted the company, which said that it did not advertise a job opening online.  The resident was advised to monitor her credit accounts.
