Police Blotter: Burglarized Cars, Online Insults

ALCOHOL

Gabriel Hernandez, 30, of the 1600 block of Garland Lane, Hanover Park, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 12:50 a.m. June 17 on westbound Lake-Cook Road from Milwaukee Avenue.

ANIMALS

A man reported that while running at 11 a.m. June 15 on the 100 block of Manchester, he reached out to touch a dog and was bitten. An officer spoke with the owner of the dog and gave her instructions on the requirements after a dog bite.

A resident reported June 16 that a person with whom she had been communicating on Match.com asked her for $2,000 because he was stuck in a foreign country and needed to return home.

BURGLARY

Someone entered a car and removed 15 $2 bills between 11 p.m. June 14 and 8 a.m. June 15 on the 200 block of Hiawatha Drive. The resident was certain the car was locked, but there were no signs of forced entry.

Someone entered a garage between 11 p.m. June 14 and 12:30 p.m. June 15 on the 100 block of Mary Lu Lane and removed $2 from a car and took a mountain bike. There were no signs of forced entry into the garage or the car.

Someone entered a vehicle parked on the 100 block of Mary Lu Lane between 12:30 a.m. June 14 and 2 p.m. June 15 and removed a radar detector, a navigation system, a pair of sunglasses and a snow brush. There were no signs of forced entry.

A resident of the 100 block of Mary Lu Lane reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle and removed four Kenwood radios that belong to his employer between 3 and 5:30 a.m. June 15.

A resident of the 300 block of Burnt Ember Lane reported that a Hispanic male came to his door at 5:20 p.m. June 15 stating that he was from ComEd and that there was a problem with the electricity in the area. The male asked to come into the home to make sure the problem was not coming from this house. He spent about 10 minutes with the resident and then departed in a van with two other people in it. The resident then checked and found two jewelry boxes missing from his bedroom. The van was described as white, with windows all around. No license plate information was available.

DISPUTE

A resident reported a dispute with an air duct cleaner at 6:30 p.m. June 15. The resident was not satisfied with the work and was refusing to pay. After some discussion, the resident paid for the service and will contact the cleaner’s supervisor.

DRUGS

Antonio P. Hatcher, 19, of the 1100 block of Museum Boulevard, Vernon Hills, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at midnight June 16 on the 300 block of Half Day Road.

NEIGHBOR COMPLAINT

An individual reported that a neighbor was not picking up after their dog at 9:30 a.m. June 15 on the 600 block of Maple Drive. An officer spoke with the neighbor who stated that she has two dogs and her husband cleans the dog run each day. The officer checked and found no violation. Past complaints also ended with no violation.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 1-100 block of Oak Creek Drive reported that someone scratched the letter N into the windshield of his motorcycle between 10 p.m. June 14 and 8 a.m. June 15.

THEFT

An official at a business on the 400 block of North McHenry Road reported that someone threw garbage, including automobile tires, into the company’s Dumpster between 10 p.m. June 14 and 8:15 a.m. June 15. A piece of mail was located; the addressee was called and admitted to placing the garbage into the Dumpster. The tires will be removed and disposed of properly.

A resident received a call from a retail store’s fraud division advising her that someone attempted to purchase $1,200 worth of gift cards using her charge card on June 12. The resident checked and found that her charge card is missing.

A resident of the 400 block of Chatham Circle reported June 16 that five rings were missing from jewelry boxes in a bedroom

WELL-BEING CHECK

A mother reported at 10:45 p.m. June 16 that her 14-year-old son’s father took him for a walk to discuss some disciplinary issues. The boy took off running and the father couldn’t find him. An officer called the boy’s cell phone and left a message. The boy then called and the officer went and picked him up and took him home.

An officer heard a female yelling and screaming and then observed the woman throw her cell phone and purse at 1:35 a.m. June 17 in a parking lot on the 1-100 block of Dundee Road. It was determined that the woman was angry because her husband took her keys. The officer spoke with the husband who stated that they both had been drinking and he wanted to take a taxi home and the wife did not. A taxi was called; both entered and were driven home.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported that she had been insulted in an online chat between 1 and 4:40 a.m. June 16. An officer advised the resident to refrain from further communication with the individuals who insulted her and to block them from accessing her social media sites.

A resident of the 1300 block of Westchester Road reported June 16 that the trunk of a parkway tree was splitting and he was concerned that a large branch would come down. A work order was issued to the Public Works Department.
