Police Blotter: Attempted Alcohol Thefts, Garbage Can Catches Fire

ANIMALS

Citizens brought to the a brown male pit bull mix that they found running loose at 4:30 p.m. June 13 on Buffalo Grove Road north of Dundee Road. The dog had no tags and a check for a chip was negative. The person watching the dog for the owner came in to retrieve the dog.

BURGLARY

 A resident of the 1200 block of Johnson Drive reported that while parking his car at 12:15 a.m. June 14, he saw the dome light on in a Jeep. When he turned towards the Jeep the resident saw two people running away. He said they were males and one was wearing a gray hoodie. An officer contacted the registered owner who checked and found that her iPod Touch and some loose change were missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A resident of reported June 13 that she and her boyfriend had been discussing their relationship and the boyfriend’s mother got involved. The mother called the resident names and threatened bodily harm. An officer spoke with the mother, who stated that her son wants nothing to do with the resident and the resident stalks her son. The son will seek an order of protection.

FIRE

A resident of the 800 block of Summer Court reported her garage was full of smoke and a garbage can was on fire at 7:55 a.m. June 13. Fire personnel determined the fire to be out. There was significant smoke damage. The resident stated that she burned the last log in the fireplace, placed the ashes in a paper bag, and placed that into the plastic can. The embers apparently were still hot enough to catch items in the can on fire.

NOISE COMPLAINT

A resident of the 700 block of Grove Drive reported that his downstairs neighbor was playing loud music at 10:20 p.m. June 13 that was preventing his children from sleeping. The officer could hear the loud music and spoke with the downstairs neighbor. The neighbor agreed to turn the music down for the night.

PROPERTY DAMAGE
 
A resident of the 400 block of Chatham Circle reported that her dog barked at 11 p.m. June 12, but she did not investigate. The next morning she found her curbside mailbox on the ground and the post broken in half.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Bernard Drive reported that someone keyed the entire driver’s side of his 2008 Toyota RAV4 between 7 p.m. June 2 and 8 a.m. June 3. The resident did not witness the crime but believed the offender to be his sister-in-law’s ex-boyfriend. The following day the resident found a makeup bag in his yard and the bag contained a note mentioning death and family. The makeup bag belongs to the sister-in-law, and it had been stolen from her car.

THEFT

A contractor who had supplies delivered June 8 to build a deck on the 2100 block of Apple Hill Lane found June 13 that someone had taken the hardware. The hardware is valued at $179.82.

A official reported that a male subject attempted to leave the store without paying for alcohol at 2 p.m. June 13. The subject left his backpack behind with the merchandise and ran westbound from the store. An officer found a name inside the backpack and was able to determine a residence. The officer spoke with the subject’s mother, who called her son. He did not deny the incident. The store official did not want to pursue charges and the son was told that he is not to return to that store.

A official reported that a female subject placed three bottles of alcohol into a large purse and then continued to shop at 3:45 p.m. June 13. An officer waited for the subject to exit the store and confronted her. She eventually stated that she did place the items into her purse and then changed her mind, placed two of the bottles on a shelf and placed the third into the cart and paid for it along with the groceries. The subject was warned not to return to the store.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A resident of the 900 block of Pine Tree Circle South reported being concerned for the well being of her upstairs neighbor at 5 p.m. June 13 because the shower had been running for an hour. Officers checked with the upstairs neighbor who stated that her daughter had taken a shower and may not have turned it completely off.
