Police Blotter: Annoying Neighbors, Attempted Scam

ABANDONED VEHICLE

A resident of the 1-100 block of River Oaks Circle East reported Nov. 19 that a vehicle that had been parked on the street for a week had not been moved and was leaking fluid. The vehicle was ticketed on Nov. 15. The officer will send a pre-tow notice to the registered owner. 

ANIMALS

A resident of the 1-100 block of River Oaks Circle West reported that she found an orange and white short-haired cat in her backyard at 6:10 p.m. Nov. 19. The cat did not have a collar, tags or microchip. The cat was transported to Kings Kennel.  

COMPLAINTS

A resident reported placing a bicycle at the curb at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 on the 1-100 block of Columbus Parkway to have a friend pick it up. The resident then found at 6 a.m. Nov. 19 that someone placed the bike directly behind his car. Had the resident not seen where the bike was, he would have run over it. The resident suspects a neighbor because of ongoing issues. It was suggested that the resident keep the bike by the garage until the friend picks it up. 

A resident of the 900 block of Pine Tree Circle South reported at 8:35 a.m. Nov. 19 that their upstairs neighbor was pounding on her ceiling and waking the resident up. This has been an ongoing issue. An officer spoke with the upstairs neighbor who stated that the resident is oversensitive to noise. The officer requested that they be mindful of each other. 

FOUND PROPERTY

A resident of the 1200 block of Eton Court reported finding a white “No Parking” sign in his front yard at 7:05 p.m. Nov. 19. The resident could not determine where the sign came from. The sign will be returned to Public Works. 

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALLS

A resident reported receiving an automated phone call on Nov. 19 and a message was left stating that the caller was from the FBI and due to an increase in the number of burglaries in the area, the resident could receive a free alarm system if she let their company put a sign in front of her home. An officer checked the Internet and found there were numerous complaints about that phone number and that the offer is a scam. 

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

A resident of the 800 block of Shady Grove Lane reported Nov. 19 that a number of ComEd vehicles park near her home on a regular basis. An officer checked and found the trucks and workers were legitimate doing work in the area. 

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Nov. 18 that she is the president of her condo association, and that a neighbor is the treasurer. The resident said she has been receiving email from the neighbor since February that the resident believes are harassing in nature, citing curse words and threats. An officer reviewed the email and found no curse words or threats; they pertained directly to business handled by the board. There was a rude tone to the emails, but no crime was committed.
