Police Blotter: $350,000 Missing from Safe, Neighbor Suspected of Selling Missing Property

The following information was supplied by the Buffalo Grove Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction. Email cristel@patch.com with questions about this blotter.

BURGLARY

The owner of a business on the 1400 block of North McHenry Road reported that when he entered the office at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 20, he found $20 bills on the floor. The owner then checked the safe and found that $350,000 in cash was missing. The owner suspects a former employee, who knows the code to the safe.

DISORIENTED CITIZEN

An officer responded to a report of a stolen cell phone and found a disoriented woman in the lobby at 11 a.m. Dec. 20 on Villa Verde Drive.  The officer was able to contact a family member who responded and took the woman home. The family member stated that her mother-in-law will be moving to an assisted living facility.

DRUGS

A Charter One Bank official reported that there was a man in the bank attempting to cash a check from an account that was fraudulently opened using another customer’s identity at 1:40 p.m. Dec. 20. Officers spoke with the man, who produced a fake Florida driver’s license. During the search of the man’s wallet for additional identification, two packets of a substance that field tested positive for cocaine were found. Johnny Jackson, 61, of the 1100 block of Wentworth, Chicago, was charged with possession of cocaine.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A security officer at Dominick’s reported that two people were acting peculiar then left the store and drove off in a vehicle at 5:10 p.m. Dec. 20. The security officer then reviewed security video and noted that the female subject placed items into her purse. The video could not confirm if the items were paid for or left behind. The vehicle was registered to an owner in Arlington Heights.

THEFT

A Buffalo Grove resident told police that he moved to Nevada over the summer, and when the moving truck arrived, missing from the truck were a TV, two bicycles, a barbecue grill, lawn chairs, a folding table, a computer and monitor, a printer, fax machine, cassette recorder, Christmas ornaments, hand tools, clothing, a vacuum and record albums. The former resident had requested that a neighbor supervise the loading of the truck and place anything that did not fit into storage. The former resident also received information from another former neighbor that the neighbor who supervised held a garage sale, where some of the missing property was allegedly sold.

WELL-BEING CHECKS

A financial advisor reported Dec. 20 that he has been attempting to reach a client for the past week without success. When the advisor went to the client’s residence, he found the car there but no one answered the door.  An officer obtained the name and number of a daughter from a neighbor. The daughter stated that she was with her father who is currently in the hospital.

Officers spoke with a resident on Dec. 20 who stated that she has been stalked for many years. The resident was unable to provide specifics and stated that the stalker is always a different person. The resident was advised to call 911 immediately when such incidents occur. The resident appeared fine upon officer’s departure.

I saw a post about requesting a new toter 2-3 weeks ago and called Waste Management right away toRead More get my name on the list. They told me the new 35-gallon one would be delivered the week of 6/24. When I looked outside this morning upon hearing a truck, I saw that they took my old one and replaced it with the 35-gallon toter. (Today is my trash day.) It may take time for the delivery to occur since it takes longer than when they pickup your trash and it's someone with a different vehicle doing it. The only problem I have with WM is they didn't take the old wicker lawn chair I left out for the trash.

While I understand the intended benefits of these new toters (increased efficiencies by WM, whichRead More should help keep residents' costs down), there has been an unintended consequence to this. As you walk around the neighborhood, you now see the majority of homes having to leave the toters OUTSIDE, even for those who were successful in getting the smaller ones delivered. How many homes now have their garbage sitting alongside their garages, or even out on their driveways, all the time? Not exactly eye-appeal. I was able to fit mine into the garage, barely, next to my recycle toter, but now I can't open the back door of my car when its in the garage. I only hope that the raccoons don't figure out how to lift the lids!
