Officials Respond after Student Brings Knife to School

An Ivy Hall School student reportedly brought it to school in backpack.

A spokeswoman said there was “no malicious intent” when a student packed a knife in a backpack Monday and brought it to .

School officials did not know about the knife until Tuesday, when a few parents who had heard about it contacted the school, spokeswoman Betsy Fresen said. The parents of the children in that class were called Tuesday, and an email was sent to all Ivy Hall parents that afternoon, notifying them that “a student brought an unsafe object to school on Monday, April 9th.”

“The school, in collaboration with the District Office and Police Department, conducted an in-depth investigation and are taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all children. Please know that your child’s security is our top priority and we are doing everything in our power to continue to ensure that Ivy Hall is a safe place,” Principal Jennifer Brown wrote to parents.
