Man Charged With Sexual Abuse In Buffalo Grove

Police allege that Herbert Burgess abused two teens at a business.

A 57-year-old man faces sexual assault and abuse charges after authorities said he abused two juveniles in Buffalo Grove.

Herbert M. Burgess, of 2331 S. Lexington, Mount Prospect, was charged with one count of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Criminal sexual assault is a Class 1 felony, punishable by four to 15 years in prison and up to a $25,000 fine. Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a Class 2 felony, punishable by three to seven years in prison and up to a $25,000 fine.

The charges came after a parent told on Aug. 19 that his 15-year-old son had been sexually abused in Buffalo Grove. Investigators determined there was a second 15-year-old victim. The alleged abuse took place between Aug. 8-19 at a business in Buffalo Grove.

Police Cmdr. Steve Husak said detectives continue to investigate whether there were additional incidents or other victims. Because the case remains open, he could not comment Monday on whether the teens worked with Burgess or provide any further details.

Burgess’ bond was set at $1 million. His next court date is Aug. 31 at the Lake County Courthouse.
