Lake County Sheriff's Office Seeks Participants for Citizens Police Academy

Applications from interested Lake County residents are due Sept. 7.

Applications are now being accepted for the Lake County sheriff's department's Citizen Police Academy.

Participants will have the opportunity to see first-hand how the Sheriff’s Office maintains law and order for the residents of Lake County.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our residents to interact with the people of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and see for themselves the dedication and commitment our office has for these citizens,” said Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran.

The Academy is a 10-week long program with classes running approximately three hours each. Instruction is provided by sworn deputies and civilians in their field of expertise and is designed to provide a hands-on experience. Training will take place at the various Lake County Sheriff’s Office facilities, including the Lake County Courthouse and Lake County Jail in Waukegan, as well as at the Highway Patrol Division located in Libertyville.

The Academy is offered free of charge to Lake County residents.  Participants must be 21 years of age or older, be of good moral character and have no felony convictions.

Applications are available at the Lake County Sheriff’s Administration Office located at 25 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan or on the Lake County website.
