Firefighters Grow Mustaches for a Cause

Members of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department participated in "Movember" last month. Here's a look at the mustaches they grew.

Buffalo Grove firefighters didn't just grow mustaches last month. Through their participation in the Movember initiative, they also raised nearly $1,200.

This was the first year the department participated in Movember, an international effort to raise money and awareness for men’s health issues. The facial hair is intended to serve as a conversation starter about prostate and testicular cancer.

Some of the participants shaved their mustaches off as soon as the month ended, while others have kept their new looks, said Fire Chief Terry Vavra.
