Evanston Woman Guilty of Selling Heroin to Vernon Hills Teen Who Overdosed

A Lake County jury found a 21-year-old Evanston woman guilty Tuesday of selling the heroin to a 15-year-old Vernon Hills High School girl that led to her overdose death in 2011, according to the Daily Herald.

Michelle Lee could face up to 7 years in prison on a charge of unlawful sale of a controlled substance after prosecutors said Lee sold heroin to three teenage girls, including the victim, for $40, and the girls then went to a Libertyville park where they ingested the drug, according to the article.

The teen began to show signs that she was overdosing and one of the girls she was with called 911, according to the Vernon Hills Review. She was given a compound meant to counteract the overdose and left the hospital responsive before falling asleep that night at her home, according to the article.

The Vernon Hills Review reports she died at some point during the morning of Oct. 8, 2011, from what officials call a "rebound overdose."
