The Buffalo Grove Police Department reports that there are ongoing, random scams that may impact residents. Here is what they say:

Lost Pet Scams

We have received information about a new scam, in which a person comes to the front door and is crying, asking for help finding their pet dog or cat. They state the pet ran in their back yard and ask for help finding it. The homeowner assisted and left the front door open, for others to then enter and steal items of value.

Ruse Burglaries

This is a crime in which someone distracts the homeowner while a second person enters the home and looks for things to steal. Ruse burglaries are a favorite method of operation for residential burglars and often target senior citizens.

Residents are asked to reach out to their senior neighbors and talk to them about this activity. People are urged to be alert and not allow themselves to become victims of this crime, and to call 911 when anything seems suspicious.
