Caller Offers $1.2 Million Prize With a Catch

ALCOHOL

Augustin Martinez, 26, of the 1200 block of Union, Wheeling, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, no valid driver’s license, speeding and driving without insurance at 11:31 p.m. Oct. 23 on the 1100 block of Dundee Road.

Lisa Y. Kim, 46, of the 2200 block of Nichols, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal lane use, speeding and driving without insurance at 2:42 a.m. Oct. 25 on Dundee Road at Vernon.

Zachary R. Sherman, 30, of the 600 block of Hapsfield, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit and improper lane use at 3:12 a.m. Oct. 27 at Hapsfield and White Pine.

DISPUTE 

A complainant reported a vehicle left a gas station on the 1200 block of Arlington Heights Road without paying for their fuel at 6:50 p.m. Oct. 25. Officers contacted the driver who attempted to pay at the pump, but the transaction failed.

DRUGS

Donald J. Swim, 29, of the 6000 block of Silver Lake, Cary, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and obstructed windshield at 1:56 a.m. Oct. 29 on McHenry Road near Arlington Heights Road.

FRAUD

A resident reported receiving several phone calls Oct. 29 from a person claiming to be John Baker, who stated he was with Publishers Clearing House. The caller advised that the resident won $1.2 million and all he needed to do is prepay the taxes with a prepaid credit card. The resident recognized this was a scam and hung up. Officers suggested blocking the phone number if the calls continued. 

LOST PROPERTY

A complainant on the 800 block of Buffalo Grove Road reported he lost his wallet and cell phone Oct. 23.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A complainant reported damage to the driver and passenger side windows of a vehicle that was parked in the driveway Oct. 25 on the 200 block of Lincoln.
