Buffalo Grove Police Provide Easy Access to Sex Offender Information

The department has joined OffenderWatch, a national program that helps citizens locate nearby sex offenders and register to receive email notifications.

The has joined a national network that allows citizens to search for sex offenders and predators in their communities.

OffenderWatch will be updated by Buffalo Grove police as offender information changes and is reported. Citizens can use the service to obtain a list of all offenders within up to two miles of a given address.

Citizens can also register an address to be continuously monitored by police, who will send email alerts if an offender or predator registers an address nearby. Citizens may confidentially register as many addresses as they like, at no cost to them.

“Citizens have a right to know who may be living near them and could potentially pose a threat to their families. The Buffalo Grove Police Department has the most up-to-date information on all offenders registered in the state and I am happy to be able to provide that information to them,” Police Chief Steve Balinski said in a statement.

The program also enables police to verify that offender addresses do not violate any safety buffers around protected institutions such as schools, day cares and parks, and helps law enforcement schedule compliance checks for verifying information provided by offenders.
