Buffalo Grove Police Charge Two with Felony Burglary

Police say two 20-year-olds took property from residents' vehicles this week.

Buffalo Grove police charged two men with felony burglary on Oct. 30 following reports of property taken from residents’ vehicles.

John Murray, 20, of the 1-100 block of Mark Drive, Hawthorn Woods, and James T. Stewart, 20, of the 1-100 block of Carlisle Road, Hawthorn Woods, both face two counts of felony burglary. They were also charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor after police found them at 4:25 a.m. Oct. 30 on the 1500 block of Brandywyn Court.

Officers began looking for suspects after receiving a report of a burglary from a vehicle at 3:30 a.m. on the 500 block of LaSalle Lane. They were advised that a possible offender fled east in the direction of Buffalo Grove Road and was last seen wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap. Items were moved in the vehicle but nothing was reported missing, according to police.

Almost an hour later, police located two men in a dark-colored SUV on the 1500 block of Brandywyn Court North. While speaking with the men, an officer noticed cash and items such as a navigation system in the vehicle. The officer located an open garage door on Brandywyn Court and the resident told police that a navigation system and an Apple iPod were missing. The resident confirmed that the items in the suspects’ SUV belonged to him, police said.

Police also recovered an Apple iPod, iPhone charger and a navigation system from the men. Those items were claimed by a resident of the 600 block of Lyon Court, who said they were taken from his vehicle between 9 p.m. Oct. 29 and 7:10 a.m. Oct. 30.

Bond was set for $25,000 for Murray and Stewart at an Oct. 30 hearing in Lake County. Their next court date is Nov. 5.

Police said they obtained additional property, but have not yet identified the owners. Area residents who notice items missing from their vehicles are asked to call the Buffalo Grove Police Department's investigation division at 847-459-2560.
