A Buffalo Grove man who was charged last year in connection with a large grass fire that was sparked by fireworks is now facing felony charges in Lake County.
Gabriel R. Horwich, 22, was indicted Oct. 2 by a Lake County grand jury on two counts of criminal damage to property.
Buffalo Grove police arrested Horwich after a resident reported a fire and an off-duty officer from another department spotted Horwich running from the area after allegedly shooting off fireworks on July 8, 2012.
The fire quickly spread across the open land on the west side of Buffalo Grove Road between Aptakisic Road and Brandywyn Lane. The blaze, which required response from 25 fire departments, knocked out power, closed roads and came within 15 feet of homes.
Horwich faces one Class 3 felony count for damage to Commonweath Edison property and a Class 4 count for damage to village property, a spokeswoman for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office said.
His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 16 at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.
