Buffalo Grove Deck Catches Fire

No one was injured in the July 2 fire on Navajo Trail.

are investigating the cause of a fire that consumed a backyard deck on Navajo trail this afternoon.

Battalion Chief Joe Wieser said the department received a call around 1:15 p.m. from a neighbor who saw smoke coming over the top of the home at 214 Navajo Trail.

When firefighters arrived, "flames and smoke" were coming from the wooden deck, Wieser said.

"The fire didn't take long to put out," said Wieser, who said Buffalo Grove was assisted by firefighters from a number of area departments, including Long Grove, Lincolnshire and Arlington Heights.

The residents were not home when the fire was reported, but returned while firefighters were on the scene, Wieser said. The fire was extinguished before it reached the home, and the residents were allowed back inside.

Investigators have not determined what caused the fire, Wieser said.
