An Arlington Heights woman is dead after a Wednesday collision between her passenger vehicle and a Freightliner sem-trailer truck at Palatine and Wheeling roads in Wheeling.
The crash occurred at 11:26 p.m., according to a press release from the Wheeling Police Department, and involved the 2010 semi-trailer and a 2002 Mazda Protoge driven by the 55-year-old woman.
Deputy Chief John Teevans of the Wheeling Police Department said the identity of the victim will be withheld until all family notifications have been made.
Police have determined that the male driver of the truck, a 57-year-old man from Nichols, Wisconsin, was traveling eastbound on Palatine Frontage and then made a left turn onto northbound Wheeling Road at the time of the incident.
The Arlington Heights woman was traveling westbound on Palatine Express within the intersection when the collision occurred. She was unconscious at the scene, according to the release, and died from her injuries a short time later.
The truck driver was not injured, and told police he had the green light as he went through the intersection.
The investigation continues, including the Wheeling Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
