Mathias' Silence on Stone is 'Deafening'

Letter to the editor

We were greatly disappointed to hear that Representative Sidney Mathias ducked direct questions posed at his Town Hall meeting regarding his collaboration with and support for former Trustee Lisa Stone.

Rep. Mathias not only endorsed her for Trustee, he served as Honorary Campaign Chairman. He refused to withdraw his endorsement despite her outrageous antics. He refused to support Recall, despite the revelation she was unqualified to hold office. And now, she not only says she endorses him and is affiliated with his campaign, but also that they are collaborating, working hand-in-hand to advance her legislative agenda.

Rep. Mathias has been asked repeatedly to declare where he stands. Is he in league, as she claims, with the person who holds the ignominious distinction as the only elected official in state history to be recalled from office? This is not an academic inquiry. It is a matter of his reliability, credibility and judgment. It directly calls into question his capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and his ability to make sound decisions. The continuing silence from him is deafening. And it is telling as well.

According to the delusional one, she is the reason Mathias won - so she's come full circle in being the reason he loses. Mathias allowed himself to be stoned. Even if he denounced her tomorrow, it's too late to win back the voters he lost. It would look like a desperate, but futile attempt - much like Lisa's attempt to get validation for all the things she says she accomplished, that she had nothing to do with. I have zero respect for either one of them. They deserve each other.

Apparently Mathias thinks the old "bob and weave" maneuver will work with BG voters. I hope the Sente campaign wallpapers the village with the grip and grin pictures of him with his buddy, ally, supporter and protege Stone. If it doesn't trigger post-traumatic stress disorder with voters, at least it will remind them of who he consorts with and allows in his tent. Can't wait to see what spectacle emerges at the BG Board meeting tonight.

I hope she takes the opportunity to rant for 10-15 minutes about her close ties with Sid. That should lose him about 150-200 votes. I'll be there watching, Li!!

Just got an e-mail from Sid: Monday, September 10, 2012 1:47 PM Mark Thank you again for your concern. I am submitting my statement to the area news outlets later today and I hope they will be at least on-line tomorrow. It is my intention to clear up this matter so there is no doubt where I stand. Her evidence is in her double secret safe files and you are now on double secret probation.

This should be very interesting...

Baltimore vs. Cincinatti? Oakland vs. San Diego? Both good matchups, but I feel like the most entertaining matchup of the night will be Stone vs. the Village Board.
Just in case, I'm going to get my Maple Syrup ready should there suddenly be a large pile of 'waffles' available to the public.
I wonder if another of her supporters, The Daily Herald, will carry the 'statement'? They used to just love anything and everything to do with her as it did boost their online readership into the stratosphere just because it related to her.
RELENTLESSCRITIC September 10, 2012 at 09:18 PM
The hitting will be harder, that's for sure.
Mark Bushey September 11, 2012 at 12:59 AM
Stone and Sid are both at the meeting. this could get interesting.
Mark Bushey September 11, 2012 at 04:18 AM
Without ruining Cristel's article in the morning, I have to say I give Mathias credit for coming to the board meeting and taking his stance in front of Lisa Stone.

By the way, if you'd like your own personal audience with Queen Lisa, her current haunt seems to be the Buffalo Restaurant. She's been there on each of my last several visits, sitting in a booth near the front door, watching who comes and goes, harassing and harranguing patrons as they eat and intruding on their conversations. She seems to have the run of the place, running in and out of the kitchen at will. Maybe she's checking the water. I'm not sure if the owners are Lisa sympathizers or are too polite to shut her down, or want (need?) her money so much that they tolerate her behavior. I've overheard her harrangues and if she ever interrupted my meal that way I would seriously consider calling the police to escort her away. Further, if the owners did nothing to corral her it would be my last meal there.

She hangs out at the Buffalo just like Frank Sinatra did at Booth # 1 at the Pump Room back in the good old days. The Buffalo has been one of her favorite haunts for a long time. I used to see her in there all the time, but stopped going because her presence annoyed and nauseated me. I wonder if the owner realizes how much business he's losing by having her hang out there?
Walter White September 11, 2012 at 12:04 PM
The owner once bent my ear for 20 minutes about how the Nazis murdered children in Greece so I thinks its safe to say he's as much of a loon as she is.
NotWastingTime September 11, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Hmmmm, I wonder what the Health Department would have to say about her going in and out of the kitchen?
Chris Papaioannou September 11, 2012 at 07:49 PM
My name is Chris Papaioannou. My Father John and I own the Buffalo Restaurant. We are a public place and I cannot tell someone to leave here unless they are causing problems. I can assure people that NO ONE is running in and out of our Kitchen that doesnt work here. We are a family run place and we do not want to have issues with anyone. We work hard here and I do not like to see my restaurants name associated with any SPECIFIC POLITICIANS. We have a lot of "Famous" people that come in here. From politicians to sports players. Certain people tend to stick out because of who they are. I cannot stop someone from coming in here. We are here to serve everyone in this community. basically what im trying to say is Im here to serve food to the people that come into my establishment. I do not want to be involved in politics nor do I want to offend anyone. My father an I work hard to make this the best restaurant that we can. Also, the person that made those comments about the nazis murdering children in greece was not an owner. He was a manager and he no longer works here. I did look up on google about that comment and did find this on wiki. Again im not a historian or a politician. We are here to serve food to the community. A community that has supported us a great deal in the four years since we have purchased the restaurant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_of_Kalavryta
Walter White September 11, 2012 at 07:55 PM
Not disputing the truth of the claim but do you think that was appropriate conversation for a restaurant? Probably not since he doesn't work there anymore. Other than that, we like your restaurant very much and go there often.
Chris Papaioannou September 11, 2012 at 08:29 PM
I do not think that it was appropriate at all. You will never hear myself or my father discuss anything like that in the restaurant. This isnt the place for those discussions. Im glad you enjoy coming here. I love this restaurant and this community a great deal. Besides it being a business we really enjoy the people that come in here.
Mark Bushey September 11, 2012 at 08:40 PM
Chris - I don't think it was a conversation Walter initiated, judging by the way he said he bent his ear and called him a loon for doing it. So that is why it's not appropriate. Obviously, with your restaurant being a place many go to convene, have some dessert, chat with their friends, etc., it would not be inappropriate if all parties were interested in having the conversation.
Erica Williams September 11, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Chris - Your restaurant is wonderful.
Chris Papaioannou September 11, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Thank You. My dad and I try very hard to do our best here. This restaurant and this community deserve the best. Its a truly great place to work. I personally enjoy talking to the customers about a variety of things. However its hard for me to control the topic of conversation between staff and customers.
Erica Williams September 12, 2012 at 12:22 AM
Chris - No one should put you on the spot let alone try to control a topic.

I may have to stop by for a BLT, matzo ball soup and a banana split this week.
Chris Papaioannou September 12, 2012 at 01:13 AM
Thanks for positive comments. and if you do stop by, please ask for Chris.
Howard Hoffman September 12, 2012 at 08:30 PM
John, Chris and Kathy are great. They make the place a warm and comfortable place to enjoy a good meal and to socaize with fellow B - Grovers. To the staff, keep up the great job. I'll be there soon for my kreplach soup (w/ only 1 kreplach).
Chris Papaioannou September 12, 2012 at 08:33 PM
Thanks Howard. Hopefully someday i can answer the baseball trivia questions you ask me.

How this post went from Lisa Stone and Sid Mathias to Buffalo is just amazing and entertaining. I just ate breakfast at Buffalo this morning and had a wonderful onion and mushroom omelette with wheat toast and fruit. The service was outstanding and I love the coffee. You also have a lovely tuna melt that I enjoy as well. I am happy to say that I had breakfast with my good friend Mike Terson and we didn't see anyone famous or Lisa Stone or Sid Mathias. I did notice that it was very busy and I the success of Buffalo must come from the lovely Papaioannou Family. Thanks for the great breakfast.

I'm pretty sure on her 911 call Lisa mentioned that she pays Frank LaDonne $100/hour.
