it's a beautiful day ...

As the shocked usher gazed at the scoreboard and the final score was revealed, Stevenson 35, St. Charles East 7, she looked at me bewildered and exclaimed , “ how did you know ?” There were a few dozen other fans in the stands pretty shocked when I boldly predicted the exact score of this IHSA playoff game, moments before kickoff. As the game played on, from 21 to 0 at halftime, got to 35 to 0 in the fourth quarter and with eight minutes to go became 35 to 7, an eerie feeling came over a section of fans seated near the fifty yard ine, high up near the press box.

Eight minutes is a long time for Stevenson to keep a team, that normally scores a lot of touchdowns off the scoreboard. Anxious seconds ticked off as my prediction was becoming embraced by others. A field goal or score by either side and I'd become just another handicapper that got somewhat lucky. The week before I had accurately predicted a 17-14 halftime score between Lake Forest and Stevenson and also boldly stated that Lake Forest would be shutout the second half even though they led 17 to 0 in the first quarter.

You must be psychic I heard from some sophomores. I just had a hunch, a gut feeling and was extremely confident in myself, as the time played on. It's like I could look into the future and see the scoreboard hours from when I first looked. Maybe I got lucky but more importantly, I believe I received a message from “The Man Above”!!

He acknowledged that he cares about me, that I exist. That's how I interpret it. He's got a busy task connecting with billions of people and he took the time to show little old me that it is extremely important to have confidence in what you say and do, even if it's as silly as a sports prediction. There's a message here Stevenson, if you want that elusive state championship!

I felt a glow come over me that lifted my spirits and my wife suggested, as I was on a hot streak, to head to the casino. So we went last night. Normally if we last an hour, we'd be down a hundred and chalk it up to entertainment. Well we were there for two and a half hours. You'd think maybe I should go out and buy a lottery ticket now.

Reality struck as we broke even. I realized G-d has something Big in store for us and it isn't money. That's OK. I do have that connection and currency does not play out in the equation. I feel the LOVE and winning the Love Lottery is the greatest feeling of all! Find that bounty and you too can have a beautiful day ,,, and complete the difficult task of a state championship
