Sente to Serve on School Security and Standards Task Force

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – In response to her ongoing commitment to public safety, State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, has been appointed to the School Security and Standards Task Force.

“I am looking forward to beginning our work on the task force, as some of my top legislative priorities are advocating for our youth, improving education, and strengthening public safety,” Sente said. “Through my involvement on this task force, I hope to make our schools more secure, as well as to provide a safer learning environment for our children and educators.”

The School Security and Standards Task Force was established as a result of Senate Bill 1931 (now Public Act 98-0578) that Sente co-sponsored earlier this year. The task force includes a bi-partisan group of legislators, as well as representatives from the Illinois State Police, Illinois Sheriffs’ Association, the Illinois Firefighter’s Association, the education community, and the private security sector. The task force will study the security of schools, make recommendations, and ultimately draft minimum standards for use by Illinois schools.

“This task force will be integral in identifying new ways to further strengthen school security and safety in Illinois in order to prevent future tragedies,” Sente said. “Throughout this process I plan to incorporate feedback from local law enforcement, firefighters, and educators, as their experience will be invaluable as we search for more ways to keep students and their teachers safe.”
