Sente to Hold Legislative Summit for Young Adults

VERNON HILLS, IL – To further boost the engagement of young adults in civics, State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is holding a Legislative Summit for Young Adults on Wednesday, July 31, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Vernon Area Library located at 300 Olde Half Day Road in Lincolnshire.

“Each year, my district office offers legislative internships. This year, my energetic team of summer interns has been tasked with coordinating an event to benefit their peers. I hope that they will have the opportunity to share their experiences working in a state office with other young adults who attend, in addition to listening to their peer's perspectives on how we can improve our state,” Sente said. “It is important that we not only create a stronger Illinois for future generations, but also acknowledge the challenges they are facing as they pursue higher education and enter into the workforce."

During Sente’s Legislative Summit for Young Adults, high school and college students from across the 59th District will be able to discuss the issues that are important to them and share their ideas for future legislation.

“Just a few weeks ago, seventeen year olds earned the right to vote in primary elections, if they will be eighteen by the general election,” Sente said. "I am hopeful that by offering young adults more opportunities to engage in the legislative process, we will lay the framework for a lifetime of active civic involvement."
