Sente Promotes American Education Week

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is bringing attention to American Education Week, which is from Nov. 17 through Nov. 23, and is encouraging residents to show support for their local schools.

“One of the greatest gifts we can give to our next generation is a great education, made possible by the hard work and dedication of our teachers, school board members, and administrators,” Sente said. “This year, during American Education Week, I encourage all members of our community to join me in expressing our sincere gratitude to everyone who helps our children realize their full potential.”

Sente is an active voice for education and youth, and serves on the House Elementary and Secondary Education Appropriations Committee. In addition, Sente facilitates a variety of community outreach events throughout the year that aim to identify and increase opportunities for children and young adults,  including legislative internships, education citizens’ advisory committees,  superintendents roundtables, and regular school visits.

“This year, the governor’s proposed budget called for slashing education funding by more than $300 million—cuts that would have been disastrous for many local schools,” Sente said. “As a member of the House’s education budget committee, I worked in a bipartisan and bicameral fashion to prevent these cuts and instead increased funding for education by $156 million over the governor's proposal by prioritizing spending and cutting non-essential areas of state government. We must do all we can to continue streamlining government, while making education an urgent priority.”
