Sente Offers Holiday Safety Tips
VERNON HILLS, Ill. – State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is reminding residents to stay safe this holiday season by providing these winter safety tips.
“The holidays are a wonderful time for spending time with family and friends, as well as to be thankful for the blessings we have received, but only when done so responsibly,” Sente said. “All too often, people take unnecessary risks or find themselves in less than ideal situations which could have been avoided with simple preventative measures.”
Sente is reminding travelers to stay safe this holiday season by taking simple precautions in preparation for unpredictable winter weather. Motorists are encouraged to keep an emergency kit with life-saving equipment and supplies in their vehicle - such as a shovel, flares, flashlight, jumper cables, food, water, blankets, and extra clothing to stay warm - in case of an emergency. In addition, travelers should make sure to check the weather before leaving home and allow plenty of time to travel when faced with potentially hazardous driving conditions.

“By taking these simple steps to prepare for weather-related emergencies, we ensure a safe and memorable holiday season,” Sente said. “The holidays are meant to be a time to relax and enjoy quality time with those we love, but this is only possible when we are mindful of our surroundings and weather conditions.”
