Sente Co-Sponsoring “Transitioning into Adulthood with Special Needs” Resource Event

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, announced that she will be co-hosting an event called "Transitioning into Adulthood with Special Needs" with state Senator Terry Link, D-Waukegan, on Wednesday, October 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mundelein Police Department located at 221 N. Lake St. in Mundelein.

“I understand that parents might feel overwhelmed when it comes to choosing the right school or housing option for their child with special needs who is soon to be a teenager or young adult,” Sente said.  “I hope this event will not only help to shed some light on available state and local resources to ensure those with disabilities are able to live as comfortably and independently as possible, but also provide emotional support to area families as they assist their loved ones in this process.”

Sente’s event will include updates on legislation, as well as presentations on guardianship, accessing benefits, day and CILA programs, and more from Brian Rubin of Rubin Law, Sherri Schneider of Family Benefits Solutions, and Carl La Mell of Clearbrook. Sente’s event is intended for the parents and guardians of children with developmental disabilities, especially those under or near the state’s official transition age of 14.

“Connecting residents with helpful resources and information is a top priority of mine,” Sente said. “In addition to hosting events and being accessible, I advocate on behalf of legislation benefiting people with disabilities, including an initiative to enhance accessibility in public buildings which became law this year.”
