Sente Connects Area Families with Special Needs Transition Resources

Vernon Hills, Ill. –State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, co-sponsored an event with State Senator Terry Link, D-Waukegan, to equip the families of children with special needs with valuable information about Illinois’ transition process on Wednesday night.

"As I walk door to door and talk with families raising special needs children, they’ve shared that they would appreciate a stronger network of families, and more information on assistance they can access as their children transition into adulthood,” Sente said. “The transition process can be very intimidating, but our event showed families that they are not alone, while also introducing them to the resources available to help them enter a new chapter of their lives.”

Wednesday’s event included presentations from guest speakers Brian and Benji Rubin of Rubin Law, Sherri Schneider of Family Benefits Solutions and Carl La Mell of Clearbrook on guardianship, accessing benefits, day and CILA programs, and available state and local resources. In addition to holding outreach events, Sente also has a Special Needs Citizens’ Advisory Committee to share input and ideas for legislation.
