Sente Announces Fraud Prevention Seminar to Help Seniors Protect Against Scams

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, will be partnering with the Attorney General’s Office to offer a Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar on Thursday, December 5, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Vernon Hills Park District’s Laschen Community Center located at 294 Evergreen Drive in Vernon Hills.

“Often times, seniors are targeted by scammers who seek to take advantage of their kindness and rob them of their hard-earned savings,” Sente said. “This seminar will empower seniors to fight back and protect themselves, by equipping them with the tools they need to effectively identify and report fraudulent behavior.”

Sente’s Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar will include a presentation from a representative of the Attorney General’s Office on how seniors can avoid financial exploitation and scams, better protect themselves from identity theft, and recognize deceptive business practices. In addition to helping residents protect against fraud, Sente co-sponsored an initiative earlier this year, Public Act 98-0354, to crack down on Medicaid fraud and potentially save taxpayers’ dollars.

“This critical legislation helps our state take another step towards cleaning up Medicaid fraud by allowing the state to go after those who helped commit the fraud, and reclaim dollars that were scammed,” Sente said. “By remaining vigilant and addressing fraud on multiple fronts, we as a community demonstrate to criminals that we will not tolerate their presence, nor allow them to take advantage of our loved ones.”
