Sente Announces Annual Senior Spelling Bee

Vernon Hills, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is co-hosting a local edition of the Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee with Sedgebrook and the Illinois Department of Aging on Monday, March 3, at 1 p.m. at the Sedgebrook senior living community, located at 800 Audubon Way in Lincolnshire.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for local seniors to showcase their spelling abilities and demonstrate a lifetime of knowledge,” Sente said. “This is a generation that was not so reliant on computers or cell phones with spell-check - a time when people had to rely solely on their memories – so their skills are unmatched.”

During the event, people age 50 and up will have the chance to compete, but all spectators are welcome. The first and second place contestants from this local competition will advance to the Regional Level where they will then have the chance to advance to the State Finals at the 2014 Illinois State Fair.

“Last year’s event was a lot of fun, as we had close to twenty participants and almost ninety of their peers cheering them on from the crowd,” Sente said. “I am hopeful that this year’s event will result in even more seniors taking advantage of this occasion to join in on the event.”

To register for the spelling competition, or for more information, please contact Sente’s full time constituent service office at (847) 478-9909 or email RepSente@gmail.com.
