Sente Pledges Continued Support of Local Fire Departments in New Role

State Representative Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) has been appointed Co-Chair of the Fire and Emergency Management Services Legislative Caucus.

SPRINGFIELD, IL – In acknowledgement of her commitment to public safety and the well-being of first responders, State Representative Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) has been appointed Co-Chair of the Fire and Emergency Management Services Legislative Caucus.  She joins her peer and long time Co-Chair Don Moffitt (R-Gilson) in efforts to move legislative initiatives that support the fire services forward.

“I am honored to accept this opportunity to work with members of both parties to support the brave men and women who go to work every day and put themselves in harm’s way to save lives,” Sente said. “I will do everything I can to make sure that our neighborhoods are safe, and that starts by making sure that firefighters’ interests are not overlooked in the General Assembly.”

One of the Fire Caucus’ initiatives, sponsored by Sente, was HB 1206, regarding the property tax exemption status of Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), which passed out of committee on Thursday. Every year MABAS, an official group of 1,100 local government entities, applies and successfully receives tax exemption for a facility they rent in Wheeling. This legislation codifies their status as a governmental entity into law and thereby makes it easier for them to provide their crucial public safety services to our community and the entire state.
