Services Set for Jerod Loeb

A service will be held Oct. 11 for Buffalo Grove resident Jerod Michael Loeb, PhD. Loeb, who was 63, died Oct. 9 after a courageous fight against prostate cancer.

He was the loving husband and best friend for 27 years of Sherri (nee Topping) and most amazing father and role model in the world to his two loving daughters Jennifer Michelle and Rebecca Elyse. He was also a special “dad” to his two puppies Hero and Halligan. He was the son of the late Henry and Beatrice (nee Cohen); son-in-law of the late Joan Topping; and loving cousin to Stuart and Ruth Smith and the late Francine Echelman.  

Jerod’s extended family was affectionately known as Loeb Nation and consisted of the entire Buffalo Grove Fire Department and Police Department as well as the Joint Commission and colleagues all over the world. Jerod was the executive vice president for Healthcare Quality Evaluation at the Joint Commission in Oak Brook for more than 19 years. He was involved in a variety of national and international initiatives associated with performance measurement and patient safety, including those of the National Quality Forum, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the International Society for Quality in Health Care and the World Health Organization.

Jerod completed his undergraduate education at College of Staten Island in New York where he received the first ever Alumni Fellow Award in 2013. He completed his doctoral degree at the State University of New York – Downstate Medical Center in 1976. Jerod received the National Quality Forum and The Joint Commission’s John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

As a community volunteer, Jerod worked with the Buffalo Grove fire and police departments since 1998. In 2005 he was appointed to the village’s Police and Fire Commission. In 2012 he received the “Heart of Buffalo Grove – Above and Beyond Award” from the Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce for his longtime volunteer service to the community.

A chapel service will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment will be in Shalom Memorial Park. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to the Jerod M. Loeb Memorial Trust to be donated to the Buffalo Grove Fire Department. Donations can be sent to the Buffalo Grove Fire Department, 1051 Highland Grove Drive, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089
