Daniel Moscowitz, Regional Director of Lubavitch Chabad of IL, Dies

He never regained consciousness after undergoing minor surgery Tuesday. He was 59. A funeral service will be held Wednesday.

Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, the regional director of the Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois and senior rabbi at Lubavitch Chabad of Northbrook, died Tuesday at age 59, according to the Chabad website COLlive.

A post on Patch about last year’s High Holiday services said Moscowitz was “known for his inspiring messages delivered with humor and sensitivity.”

The COLlive article says Moscowitz had undergone what he called a minor surgery Tuesday, but never regained consciousness. Chabad of Illinois established 37 new institutions under Moscowitz’s leadership. He had also served as president of the Chicago Rabbinical Council.

It is with great sorrow and grief that we inform you of the sudden passing of Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz OBM Regional Director of Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois our parent organization.

Under Rabbi Moscowitz's leadership, Chabad of Illinois established some 37 new institutions around the state, holding large-scale and memorable events on Jewish holidays and throughout the year. He was the senior Rabbi at Lubavitch Chabad of Northbrook.

The funeral service for Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz OBM will beheld tomorrow morning (Wednesday, March 5) at 11:00 am at Congregation Bnei Ruven: 6335 N. Whipple St. Chicago

The internment will take place at 2:00 pm at Waldheim Cemetery: 1400 Des Plaines Ave, Forest Park, IL 60130
