Dealing With Early Stage Dementia?

Care for Aging Loved Ones with Dementia

If your aging loved one is in the early stages of Dementia, you should ask yourself whether he or she is safe at home.

  • Can they prepare their own meals/use the stove and oven safely?
  • Are they taking their medications in the right amounts and at the right times?
  • Can they drive safely/do they have someone who can get them to and from their errands and appointments?
  • Do they leave the house and have trouble finding their way home?

If any of these answers are NO you'll need to consider what steps must be taken to address them.  Perhaps caregivers can be brought into the home to provide assistance and address the safety concerns. Perhaps a medical professional or family member can take responsibility for dispensing their medications and reminding them to take them.  Perhaps they will need to give up their driving license and rely on someone else to get them to and from appointments.  Perhaps an alarm needs to be put on the door.

Safety will be of increasing concern as Alzheimer's progresses.  So even though your answers to the following questions below are YES today you will want to watch for any changes.   To learn more call us at 847 295-3811.
