Adding And Editing Skills To Your LinkedIn Profile How To Video

Adding skills to your LinkedIn profile is a very important step to complete your personal on line brand. It is also extremely important in your being found in searches within LinkedIn itself.

Adding skills to your LinkedIn profile is a very important step to complete your personal on line brand. On February 24, 2012, LinkedIn began placing greater emphasis on its Skills (and Expertise) section. A LinkedIn.blog article titled 'Simple steps to a complete LinkedIn Profile' stated: “...you can showcase your areas of expertise to easily connect with people that have similar skills or with companies looking for subject matter experts.” In my opinion, this means they will use it as a weighting factor in search results.

You must be asking yourself: “So what's it I for me?” My answer is simple. If a potential client, business partner or employer wants to check you out, where might they turn to? If you answered a Google search, you are probably right in the vast majority of cases. Don't you?

Have you every “Googled” yourself?

If you have and are even a moderate LinkedIn user, you already know your LinkedIn profile should be at the very top of the search engine results page (aka SERP) for this search. This reflects on the enormous ranking power LinkedIn has attained over the past several years.

LinkedIn.com has a page ranking of 9 (out of 10) and nearly 200,000,000 pages indexed by Google. The site also has outstanding traffic rankings: Alexa (12), Compete (33) and Quantcast (22). In short, LinkedIn it is a power house.

Well, if someone does search for you by name on Google, and your LinkedIn profile is in the top results, and they click on that link, just what will they find? If it is a complete profile listing your credentials, recommendations, SKILLS, etc., you just may make a great impression which can lead to business or even a job!

In addition, adding skills and expertise has an expanded benefit to you as well. Not only does it establish your professionalism, it enhances your credibility. As an aside this simple step also subtly increases the chance of you being “found” by people interested in your products and services as well as those interested in your skill set.

Completing your skills section is also extremely important for searches within LinkedIn itself. This applies both if you are actively seeking employment and also if you are what I call a passive job seeker. A passive job seeker is someone not actively looking for a job but who will accept an offer they cannot refuse. So I invite you to enjoy the included video hot to add skills and edit them on your LinkedIn profile.
