Camp is Over! Now What?

As the 2012 camp season comes to a close on Friday August 10th, I wanted to reflect on this summer and what lies ahead for our community. This was obviously the hottest summer I can remember in recent years and I wanted to personally thank Jay Silverman of Jay's Camp for again providing an excellent summer of activities and memories my daughter and the rest of the campers will have to reflect on.

With the soaring temperatures and heat indexes, Jay's Camp did an outstanding job of making sure the campers were kept cool.  Jay scheduled many trips to the movies, The Vernon Hills Water Park, local bowling alleys and fun centers to keep the kids cool.

Overnight Campers will be returning this weekend and there is a great new service out there for the parents that do not want to get all the icky sand and yuck from their kids duffel bags and clothes in their homes from overnight camp.

In addition, the community is a buzz and patiently waiting for next Thursday August 16th as the teacher assignments for District 96, will be in the mail. District 96 will also be introducing their new food service Organic Life, LLC for our lunch rooms.

For the last 10 days before the start of school there are many things to do as summer winds down.  The Buffalo Grove Park District will have the Willow Stream Pool open.  The Vernon Area Library has an assortment of books displayed about the history of the Olympics and books about each individual sport and there are a few new restaurants around town, Urban Barbecue at Milwaukee and Route 45 and an Indian cuisine at Weiland and Deerfield Roads.
