Help Fire Fighters Fight Muscular Dystrophy

Buffalo Grove Fire Fighters use their boots to Fight Muscular Dystrophy

Every year during Labor Day festivities, the fine Men and Women of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department make a special effort to support the MDA Foundation. No doubt you saw them and their supporting cast of family members, retired Fire Service Members and Volunteers around town asking for donations.

“Fill the Boot” is their call, and that’s exactly what they want you to do. This weekend they have been “Staging” at two busy intersections in Buffalo Grove: Dundee and Buffalo Grove Roads and well as Lake-Cook and Arlington Heights Roads. They can be seen along with very recognizable MDA posters which adorn the apparatus located near the collection sights, as well as the moving operation during the Buffalo Grove Days Parade.

Over the years the Buffalo Grove Fire Department has received recognition for the great collections gathered and the overwhelming support they provide on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

One family’s reaction to the effort: “Please donate if you can..... to the MDA.....even if it is throwing a few coins in the GREAT Fire Fighter's Boots.....Chris (my son) has a form of Muscular Dystrophy....They are the only Charity that has ever tried to help us. When Chris was born and we found out he had "problems" I called around to charities to find help for my baby-son and was turned down by all - except the MDA.... ” Becky T

If you attended Sunday's Parade - you would be hard pressed to not notice the multiple volunteers, all carrying boots. Asking for donations as they walk the parade route.

Speaking briefly with Event coordinator Joe Alexander Saturday evening at the Buffalo Grove Days First Aid station, he was positive about this years efforts - and thankful for all the community support. He expected to have a final tally of the collections by Wednesday.

Joe Alexander offers this update. "Our total this year is $24,022.11. This amount bring our total money raised to $310,000 since 1993. We are the first village in the state to raise $300,000 for MDA. We also have been the largest "Fill the Boot" contributor in Lake and northern Cook Counties since 1997."
