Spin, Dip and Slide at the BG Days Carnival

For most of their lives, my kids have been wowed by the carnival at Buffalo Grove Days.  A big hurdle for many youth in the village is the year when they can attend the carnival without their parents.  It’s almost like a rite of passage here in good ole BG.  How come?  It’s good, old-fashioned fun!

This year, the BG Days carnival will not disappoint.  We are excited to bring back old favorites like the Century Ferris Wheel and the Fun Slide.  Everyone will enjoy a spin on the classic Carousel or the Tilt-A-Whirl.  For those who like a little more excitement, Freak Out returns with a 127-degree swing all while revolving up to 15 rpms over the Carnival’s Mid-Way.  Back by popular demand is the Wacky Mouse, a two-story roller coaster that is the perfect family ride with its twists and dips.  Defy gravity on the Starship Gravitron, which uses centrifugal force to pin riders to the walls and lift them off the floor.  For the little ones, the carnival offers the Balloon Race, Free Fall and the Combo Cars.

For parents or riders who are concerned about carnival ride safety, I thought you might like to know a little more about our carnival company, North American Midway Entertainment:

  • This carnival travels to 20 states and four Canadian provinces every year and their approach to safety far exceeds the required regulatory standards in every location.
  • Each carnival employee receives a minimum of 56 hours of professional safety training each year.
  • All employees go through a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as well as a  criminal background check.
  • There are 19 certified National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials employed by North American Midway Entertainment, which is substantially more than any other traveling or permanent amusement park in the world!
  • Every ride is inspected daily.

Now, back to the fun.  If you like carnival games, we have some good ones lined up this year.   Try your luck at the Water Gun Fun Game, Shoot Out the Star and the Lucky Duck.  Who knows?  Maybe you’ll go home with a new pet fish!

Traditional carnival fare is available is several areas of the carnival.  Try a fresh-dipped corn dog or freshly-squeezed lemonade.  Don’t forget the elephant ears or the irresistible funnel cakes.

Tickets are $1.25 each or $25 for 22.  $60 buys you 55 tickets.  The best deal is the wristband which sells for $23 and buys unlimited rides on Thursday evening, Saturday afternoon and Monday afternoon.  Wrist bands are good only on the day they are purchased.  My personal favorite is the ticket pre-sale which is held during the month of August at Village Hall.  During the pre-sale, 30 tickets can be purchased for $30.  This is the best ticket deal.  At the carnival, credit cards or cash are accepted for ride tickets.  Food and games are cash only.

The carnival is located south of Lake-Cook Road on Raupp Blvd. and in the Emmerich Park Parking Lot.  It runs on the following schedule:

Thurs. Aug. 29, 6:00 – 10:00 pm (wrist bands available)

Fri. Aug. 30, 6:00 – 11:00 pm

Sat. Aug. 31, Noon – 11:00 pm (wrist bands available Noon – 5:00 pm)

Sun. Sept. 1, Noon – 11:00 pm

Mon. Sept. 2, 12:30 – 6:30 pm (wrist bands available)
