Games, Races and Pancakes - All in One Weekend!

During Buffalo Grove Days, our local Rotary Club really works hard to add fun elements to the festival while raising money for local and international causes.

On Thursday night, the club sponsors the ever-popular BINGO event.  This event is held in the food tent and typically hosts 500 players.  Cards can be purchased in the Food Tent on Thurs., Aug. 29.  Doors open at 6 pm with games scheduled between 7 and 10:30 pm.  Several food vendors will be open for hungry players.  Beer will be available in the beer tent.  Admission is $1, cards are 75 cents or you can buy a specially-priced package for $14 that includes admission and 23 cards.

Last year, the Chamber of Commerce added a baggo tournament to the Thursday night.  I am excited to report that this event was well-received and will return this year.  For the uninitiated, baggo is a fun and simple game where players throw hand-sized beanbags through a hole in a standing board from a certain distance away. Games are played in rounds that end when all bean bags have been thrown.  The game of baggo is wildly popular in the Midwest and was reportedly invented in 1948. But, back to the present…the Chamber’s baggo contest will be held in the Beer Garden during Bingo.  Ladies from the Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery will assist in running the games.   A nominal fee will be charged to play and prizes will be awarded.

The Rotary returns to Buffalo Grove Days on Sunday morning with its Pancake Breakfast.  This year, the breakfast will be held on Sun., Sept. 1, 8 – 11 am.  Enjoy fresh pancakes and sausage hot off the griddle!  Cost is $6, $3.50 for children ages five – 11, and children under four are free.

Back for a third run at Buffalo Grove Days is the Rotary Duck Race.  According to the Rotary, 1000 rubber duckies raced down Buffalo Creek near Emmerich Park East last year.  This year’s race will be in the same place on Labor Day, Sept. 2 at 1:30 pm.  Here are the prizes:

First Place: $1500

Second Place $500

Third Place: $250

Next 50 winners: Culver’s gift cards

Ducks can be purchased singly for $5, in a Quack Pack of six for $25 or in a Flock of 25 Ducks for $100.  The Rotary will have a booth at BG Days where you can purchase your lucky ducks or you can go online at www.BGRotary.org. Online donations can be made on your credit card or through PayPal.  How easy is that?  Your duck purchase goes well beyond the race. It provides funds for Rotary to aid causes both locally and beyond.  In the Buffalo Grove area, our Rotary Club supports safety and hunger relief programs, and sponsors Interact Clubs at both Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High Schools.
