COMMUNITY GROUPS CALL FOR AN OPEN DIALOGUE TO DISCUSS THE RIGHT TO CONCEAL FIREARMS IN ILLINOIS

Illinois: The ONLY State Without Conceal Carry!

A group of community organizations and concerned citizens who advocate for self safety will gather to discuss issues concerning the right of citizens to carry a firearm for personal protection. Individuals from different levels of society and backgrounds have encountered a moment in their lives when they have fought back thanks to a concealed firearm at the right time. Seniors and women suffer a high level of vulnerability at the hands of an intruder, attacker or an abusive partner without many options to defend themselves.

Forty nine states have some type of regulation that allows law-abiding citizens to carry concealed. These are provisions for law-abiding citizens which recognize the right to carry a defensive firearm for personal and family protection. Illinois is the only state that considers it a felony to carry a loaded weapon for personal protection.

During a public community meeting scheduled to take place, Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Vernon Township Community Center,  2900 N. Main St., Buffalo Grove, IL at 7:00 pm, the attendees will have the opportunity to hear victims of violent crimes in Illinois talk about what they are demanding from their legislators!

“We especially see this as an equal rights issue for Illinois women who are often the victims of the most serious and heinous crimes”, said Valinda Rowe, who was targeted and stalked by someone who threatened her life.  Rowe has become a defender of a woman’s right to protect herself.  She believes, “People should have the right to choose between being a victim or a survivor.”

The sponsors of the community meeting encourage politicians from both sides of the political aisle to examine the facts and experiences of the 49 states with effective right to carry laws in place. They also hope to encourage voters to take direct action by supporting only those candidates that publicly give their support to the right of trained and properly licensed Illinois residents to carry a firearm for self defense.

This event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by IllinoisCarry.com, Illinois State Rifle Association, Second Amendment Sisters, and the Chicago Firearm Safety Association.
