Online Auction With a Heart

Gift shopping takes on a new meaning this holiday season as more people grapple with the reality of the hard economic times. This year, holiday gift giving means reaching deeper into our pockets to stretch the value of a dollar.

A good place to start is the ONLINE AUCTION 2011 sponsored by the District 214 Community Education Foundation when it goes live on November 24 - December 4. This holiday season, experience "holiday gift shopping with a heart" and get the biggest bang for your buck by bidding on items that can bring joy to a loved one or someone who might need a little cheering up.

The same exciting items and unique experiences that are sold through eBay will be waiting for you. Items such as tickets to coveted sporting events, romantic getaways, hotel stays, golf packages, and several fun and gastronomical packages to local hotspots in the Chicagoland area will be yours to have and give.

“As our economic times become even more challenging, our online auction really presents a terrific opportunity.  It's win-win because folks can name their price on wonderful items and experiences for holiday gifts, while supporting vital community-based programs and services of Community Ed,” said Mike Field, Director of Community Education.

District 214 Community Education, one of the nation’s premier community education programs, serves over 50,000 participants every year. Programs that will benefit from auction proceeds include English as a Second Language (ESL) for adults, the Women and Children’s Center, Kids on Track, Adult & Family Literacy, Adult Basic Education and Cultural and Performing Arts and Intergenerational programs.

“I encourage all the families and friends of District 214 to spread the word and support our auction,” Field added. “Your efforts will go a long way toward making somebody's holiday brighter and more meaningful this year, and improving the quality of life in our communities at the same time.”
