Buffalo Grove Area Offers Ways to Help Tornado Victims

Members of the Buffalo Grove community have launched a series of efforts to benefit the victims of last weekend's tornado in the Washington, Ill. area. 

From the Buffalo Grove police and fire departments' weekend-long collection to a resident who plans to collect donations for the next couple of months, here are ways you can help out.

The Buffalo Grove police and fire departments have joined forces to collect donations for current and former first responders whose property was damaged. They are particularly asking for gift cards, which will allow the recipients to purchase the specific items they need. Gift cards are suggested to stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam’s Club, Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy. Donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Stevenson High School

The Stevenson High School football team and Sports Boosters are collecting monetary donations through Thanksgiving. Contributions can be arranged by contacting football players or by emailing SHSSportsBooster@aol.com. 

The Sports Boosters also will have donation jars at the concessions area at Saturday’s semifinal game.

Operation Get it Done

Buffalo Grove resident Maureen Welborn is collecting donations at her home. Donated items will be picked up by organizers at Operation Get it Done, a nonprofit that provides disaster relief services.
